Goodwill Industries Calls On VCOM For Building a Virtual Private Network

October 2005 - Goodwill Industries of the Greater East Bay is a nonprofit organization founded in 1919. Goodwill provides community based workforce development programs and services, including transitional employment, job skills training and job placement services for people with vocational disadvantages. Goodwill of the Greater East Bay provides these services in Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano counties.

Goodwill chose to partner with VCOM in June of 2002, for Local, Long Distance, Internet and Data services. The relationship has been growing strong ever since. In July of 2005, Goodwill Industries of the Greater Bay Area partnered with VCOM to build a regional Virtual Private Network (VPN) that would enable 25 stores and administrative offices to gain access to information, in addition to the implementation of an organization-wide security program.

"We wanted a single source for all our telecommunication needs," said Ken Carter, Vice President of Goodwill, about their reason for choosing to partner with VCOM, "and we wanted the best single source we knew had the capability and capacity to meet our needs." Goodwill was looking for someone to help them find the "best quality of phone, fax and [Internet] communication connections at the most economical price and with user friendly analytical tools."

Through the placement of security IP enabled cameras in each store, that tie back to a centralized monitoring system at Headquarters, the new VPN based network has started to enable Goodwill to better manage its operations. This was another example of where the partnership with VCOM would prove beneficial in helping Goodwill gain more efficiencies and leverage technology to run its business more effectively. "We have had something that is quite rare in today's business world, and that is true customer service," said Mr. Carter of VCOM. "It has become a shock in today's business environment whenever true customer service is encountered, and VCOM has shocked us."
