Inside Sales Engineer, Carrier Services
JOB TITLE: Inside Sales Engineer, Carrier Services
DEPARTMENT: Solution Architecture
REPORTS TO: Manager of Solution Architecture
POSITION SUMMARY: As part of the OrderDesk team responsible for managing sourcing and carrier product recommendations, the Inside Sales Engineer will act as a liaison between vCom’s customers, the vCom account team, and carriers managed by vCom to identify and recommend voice and data carrier technology solutions and options. Daily tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Support sales by working directly with end customers over the phone to determine technical requirements needed to research and source appropriate carrier services.
- Obtain and compile pricing options for carrier services related to incoming customer requests.
- Support sales teams and customers, as required, by interfacing with carriers to obtain product details related to customer requests.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support insides and field sales teams with technical requests for Data solutions (including Dedicated Internet Access DS-1/NxDS-1, xDSL, Private Line, MPLS, Ethernet over Copper or DS1 and Native Ethernet) and Voice solutions (including Local and LD Circuits, Analog Services, and LD) technologies
- Participate in customer discovery to identify requirements and networking needs, and make technology and carrier product recommendations
- Perform customer technology, product and pricing audits, and prepare customer-facing audit summaries
- Prepare solution recommendations, including network diagrams, pricing comparisons, and solution justification, based on customer requirements. Work with the vCom Account Team to present recommendations
- Drive escalations with the carriers, to ensure timely receipt of pricing and bids
- Maintain accurate notes on all customer interaction as well as follow-up with carriers and vendors
- Prepare Service Orders based on customer selections
- Manage Sales Cases from inception to completion
- Actively work with Management to come up with ways to improve the department’s ability to effectively support clients, while gaining more efficiency
- Actively work with Management to learn and assist in documenting client configurations and specifics necessary to effectively provide ongoing support
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2- years of demonstrated working knowledge of networking essentials, including LAN/WAN, routing and networking protocols, DNS, TCP/IP, networking hardware, and Internet services and/or 1-2 years of demonstrated working knowledge of voice technologies including Local and LD
- Strong PC skills, including knowledge of MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio
- Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy a must.
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment.
- Self-motivated, with high learning aptitude and initiative
- BA/BS a strong plus
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 1-2 years of Sales Engineering experience for Tier 1 or Tier 2 voice and data carrier services, or 2-3 years of experience as a Network Engineer or Systems Administrator in the Enterprise space a plus
- Ability to prepare solution recommendations, including network diagrams, pricing comparisons, and solution justification, based on customer requirements
- The ability and desire to embrace technology, applications and knowledge
- Positive, enthusiastic, and professional demeanour
- A genuine desire to own a customer request, completely through to its resolution
- The ability to constantly handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines
- The ability to utilize all necessary resources within the company to pro-actively address customer needs and retain customers
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; the ability to determine how to resolve an issue based a complex set of variables
