Letter from the COO: The Year of Revolutions

2011 will go down in history as the Year of Revolutions. Whether it’s a revolution against an oppressive government or a revolt against “more-of-the same;” things will look quite different in the coming years, and 2011 paved the way…
On the International political front, we all watched with bated breath the rise of the Arab Spring, and witnessed as millions of young people took to the streets to fight the status quo. The Western world saw glimpses of that spirit, in the form of riots in cities like London, and the occupy movement on Wall Street. On the technology front, Cloud service providers led the revolution to a computing world where they challenged the way we do things. From small businesses to Fortune 500 conglomerates, companies explored cloud services that ranged from basic offsite backup to deploying mission critical applications in public and private clouds. 2011 saw more businesses than ever focus on reducing their carbon footprint and adopt a green strategy.
Meanwhile, in the telecom world, the carriers offered more-of-the-same: more ambiguous bills; a low standard of service (or possibly lower, if that’s conceivable); and more mergers and acquisitions, which have historically meant more challenges with billing, process and other integration struggles.
The spirit of revolution was very much alive on the vCom front. CIOs and CFOs of healthcare providers, legal firms and financial institutions rebelled against the antiquated and ineffective Carrier-Direct model of buying and managing telecom services. National and regional organizations were united by the challenge of managing the carriers in a new and innovative way. They put their trust in vCom’s professional services team, and marveled as they regained control and visibility over their telecom cost and inventory in vManager. One customer, the CIO of a regional medical group, put it simply: “vCom deals with the carriers so we don’t have to.”
What will 2012 bring?
It remains to be seen what the outcome of the political revolutions will be. It is safe to say that the technology revolution will change how companies conduct businesses. For us at vCom, we will certainly stay the course, fighting the status quo, and educating the Enterprise market about a better way of managing telecom. More businesses will join the vCom revolution, improve their odds against their competition, and focus on what they do best, while we focus on what we do best: effectively managing their telecom environment.
As 2011 comes to a close, we are thankful for the commitment we have seen from our dedicated employees, and appreciative of the trust that we have earned from our customers. We send our warmest wishes for a happy holiday season to each of them. May the new year bring everyone, here and abroad, peace and prosperity.
Seasons’ Greetings!
