Best Places to Work

vCom is proud to have been a recipient of a Best Places to Work award in the SF Bay Area
for 3 years running.  Along with customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction remains at the forefront of our strategic objectives. As we begin 2011, we thought we would ask some members of our talented team of professionals to weigh in on what creates a Best Place to Work.
For Jenifer Frey, Director of Client Relations, the development and growth of company values at vCom has been key. Employees brainstormed and selected the vCom company values, such as ‘Game-Changing Customer Service’ or ‘Communication Builds Great Teams,’ [link to Values page] and displayed those values on the website, around the office, and created processes to promote the values within the company.
“Management shows tremendous care and concern regarding employees, and I think that translates into the high quality of customer service that employees provide to the customer,” says Jenifer.
vCom has implemented a number of initiatives to promote and nurture the values within the company, including:
The Culture Club, a monthly meeting of a group of employees to discuss areas of success and areas that need greater focus.
An annual employee feedback survey on company culture and values.
Ivy Lee, vp of finance, said maintaining an open line of communication between employees and management is critical.
“People are encouraged to challenge how we are doing things, even if it means pointing out something that didn’t work as planned, because the opportunity is there to learn from that, whether it is a simple mistake or it’s a systematic issue,” says Ivy.
Mandie Irani, Project Manager, appreciates the company’s commitment to work/life balance.
As a single mom she sometimes works from home, and vCom allows her to maintain this balance without hindering her advancement within the company.
“I love coming to work. They bring out the best in me. They challenge me to aim higher, and they have a lot of confidence in me,” says Mandie.
Other company initiatives that employees identified which reinforce and promote values include:
Company-wide emails that recognize employee achievement.
Worksmart Awards, given to employees who create processes that improve performance and efficiency within the company.
$100 gift card for an employee who receives an unsolicited compliment for doing a good job.
Community involvement, including work at the Food Bank, Toys for Tots, Coastal Clean Up, and Junior Achievement.
