Hancock Calls On vCom To Build A Voice, Video And
Data Converged Network

The Challenge
In order to overcome geographical boundaries and leverage advanced networking
technologies that minimize costs, Hancock Rothert & Bunshoft turned to vCom
Solutions. Having saved significantly on long distance and conferencing
services through vCom, HRB Law looked for vCom to provide a cost-effective
and robust solution that would allow for enhanced data, voice and video
services between their offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Lake Tahoe
and Las Vegas; replace the existing costly Internet services, while providing
increased bandwidth; and help build an architecture that supports scalability.
The Solution
First, vCom deployed a fault-tolerant Wide Area Network with VPN redundancy
for maximum data exchange. Second, vCom worked with Hancock’s phone system
vendor to replace or upgrade disparate and outdated phone systems, and implement
a single platform across the enterprise with management tools and remote
administration. vCom implemented a Voice over IP solution with the objective
of saving 20-30% on usage costs from least-cost routing and inter-office
communication, in addition to building efficiencies like the ability for
exchanging messages, and leveraging a large voicemail platform in one office
to support a branch office.
Third, vCom assisted HRB Law in the selection of a video conferencing equipment
provider and the deployment of Polycom video conferencing hardware. vCom
implemented a video over IP infrastructure with ISDN fault-tolerance for
inter-office and partner video conferencing. vCom’s experienced team deployed
best practices in voice and video prioritization. The ROI from the deployment
of Video over IP was instantaneous.
Fourth, to address HRB Law’s security infrastructure, vCom Solutions deployed
Cisco’s PIX Firewalls at all offices, allowing the IT department to leverage
advanced data encryption and security. Finally, vCom designed a fully redundant
local voice access solution that provides central office local exchange
and fiber access fault tolerance, and leverages vCom’s Failsafe solution
for disaster recovery.
HRB Law also implemented vCom’s vManager service to leverage vCom’s expertise
in providing on-going support of Telecommunications Services. vManager affords
HRB visibility into all telecommunications costs and provides a powerful
tool for inventory management.
The Outcome
vCom’s solution and services afforded Hancock an overhaul of its WAN, Internet
security and voice strategy, reducing monthly costs and enabling HRB Law
to gain better control of all telecom spend without a compromise in quality
of service or redundancy. "With voice and data services converging rapidly,
we felt vCom was uniquely qualified to help us define our needs, design
a new converged data and voice infrastructure, and manage its implementation,"
said Norman Weiner, Director of Technology for HRB Law. "Downtime was minimal
and transitions to the new systems were seamless for our users and I.T.
staff."
